Church #18 - Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, Denver
June 01, 2014
10:45AM Sunday Mass
With MrK down from Ft Collins this weekend and his agreeing to tag along to Church No. 18, we selected a later Mass start time. The name of the church selected was somewhat ominous sounding and like with most of the other churches we've visited, we had no idea what to expect. This Sunday's selection was no different.
We got to the place only 5 minutes late (which in our books is actually "early") and managed to find street parking across the side of the church. There didn't seem to be a well defined front side ... which after church let out had Cyn and I walking almost the entire perimeter of the church only to find out that had we turned left instead of right we'd be in front in 25 meters. This is an instance when going left would certainly have made a lot more sense!
When we got in, Mass was cranking up with the musicians belting out their hymns. Folding chairs were being laid in the back as the main worship area was full and pretty soon so was the spill space. This Mass was one of the better attended ones we've been to so far.
I was in a Nyquil/Dayquil semi-stupor most of the Mass and everything seemed unusually pleasant ... including the Homily. The priest gave a good non-dogmatic sermon, the type with the least propensity to inspire blasphemous thoughts!
Unlike most of the other churches, Most Precious Blood didn't have a candles section. Either that or we just couldn't find it.
So, despite its name, the Church, the priest, the services, and the congregation left a pretty favorable impression ... enough to rank it #2 (out of the 18 we've visited so far). Last week we had a new #1, this week a new #2!
